Do we need Car Insurance?

April 7th, 2008 at 02:23am Under Non SEO :-)

As most people know it’s illegal to drive a car or other motorized vehicle on a legal highway without valid car insurance. Some very stupid people think it’s fine to drive without car insurance for a variety of reasons, here’s a few very good reasons in the form of car crash videos why car insurance is important.

Car’s Sliding on Black Ice

I have a feeling third part fire and theft car insurance wouldn’t have been much help to the people driving the cars in the above very funny video showing multiple cars sliding on what must have been black ice!

I hope they all had fully comprehensive car insurance :-))

Registerfly Domain Name Registration and Credit Card Payments

February 7th, 2008 at 01:58pm Under Non SEO :-)

Registerfly was the first domain names registration company I used beyond the sort of service where you pay a hosting company to host/register your domain (they do everything).

Registerfly domain registration was cheap, had a very good interface/set of domain registration tools and was reasonably easy to use and so before the problems that resulted in ICANN Termination of RegisterFly.com Registrar Accreditation Agreement in March 2007 I’d purchased over 70 domains with them and had used my credit card on many occasions to add funds to my Registerfly domain registration account so my domains would be renewed for a year or two without having to make manual credit card payments (figured I’d be with Registerfly for years).

How to Update a WordPress Theme to 2.3 Compatible

January 17th, 2008 at 02:57am Under Non SEO :-)+ WordPress Themes

With the advent of WordPress 2.3 we now have tags, a bit like WordPress categories tags can be added to any post you create and so from an SEO perspective can be useful in creating new content from old. There’s more to WordPress 2.3 than just tag support, but from a theme perspective it’s the biggest change.

Pretty easy to make a WordPress theme 2.3 compatible, however in the process of doing so you make the theme no longer work with earlier versions of WordPress. Fortunately I’ve created some tag code that solves the problem (the basic tag code breaks earlier versions of WordPress if you don’t use the function exists coding below) and so rather than creating 2 versions of your WordPress themes, you only need to make one :-))

Targeting AdSense Ads

December 25th, 2007 at 04:19pm Under Google AdSense

Google AdSense has added the ability for publishers to target their AdSense ads to the content they think best suits their site so ads shown on their sites should only show relevant AdSense ad units.

Many sites have a lot of recurring content: headers, menu, footers and anything else you might find on every page of a site.

This can cause problems for your SERPs (diluting your keyword rich content) and the relevancy of your AdSense ads.

For example this site has a variety of content including a few posts about the World of Warcraft Gold and Leveling guides and I see a lot of ads that match this content on pages that have nothing to do with this content.

Number Plates

December 12th, 2007 at 03:44am Under Non SEO :-)

I was looking for ideas for a new number plate for my car, think it’s time for the personal touch and stumbled upon this car number plate image which is quite amusing.

Funny Number Plate

As you can see the car number plate when reversed would be the ideal gift for the vast majority of men :-)

I then went looking for more funny car number plate pictures and found a scary one for women.

Not so funny Car Number Plate

World of Warcraft Gold Guide Review

August 15th, 2007 at 12:39pm Under Affiliate Marketing+ Non SEO :-)

I have to admit as a World of Warcraft player with my first level 70 character I was very skeptical about WOW gold guide ebooks in general, I’m an intelligent player, I shouldn’t need a guide to make gold while playing the world of Warcraft.

I have the professions herbalism and alchemy (picked at level 70 mainly for mana pots for raiding Kara) and think I’m doing quite well at making gold, before buying the ebook I had just over 1,500 WOW gold, but haven’t upgraded to the very fast flying mount yet (which costs over 5,000 gold) so needed some help as I felt like I’d stalled (no longer leveling so not constantly killing mobs for quests).

Understanding PR, Affiliate Content and Poor Google SERPs

July 6th, 2007 at 03:52am Under Affiliate Marketing+ SEO

Reading the newsgroup alt.internet.search-engines and a post subject: PR confusion? caught my eye.

A poster to the NG has been having problems with an affiliate site http://www.review-a-gadget.com/ and he’s been given some poor quality advice.

I’m confused about PR again.

Not surprised you’ve got some really bad advice lately, been following your newsgroup threads, but I didn’t have the time to post, but it became too much to see another round of ignorance sending you again down the wrong path chasing SERPs I don’t think this site can gain!

Someone in another group told me about the importance of getting deep in links to my inner pages.

eNom Domain Thieves

June 29th, 2007 at 06:29am Under Non SEO :-)

Recently purchased a new dedicated server because the server from Server4you was playing up and their support sucked big time. In the process of transferring over 100 domains from the Server4you server to the new one and this means nameserver changes.

I register domains through Godaddy, Registerfly (though not any more, they have gone down hill recently) and 123-Reg (I register UK domains through these).

So logged into Godaddy and started changing nameservers as the sites are uploaded to the new server. No problems at all, smooth transition.

Then logged into Registerfly and to cut a long story short discovered my domains with them had been transferred to Godaddy and eNom! Started digging through my SPAM box for missed emails about this and found two, one about domains transferred to Godaddy and one about transfers to eNom.

Hivelocity, Reg-123 and Server4you Dedicated Server Hosting Problems

June 17th, 2007 at 06:15pm Under Non SEO :-)

Some information about our problems with Hivelocity dedicated server and Reg-123 dedicated server at the bottom as well.

We’ve been using Server4you (dedicated server company) for our web sites hosting needs for a few years now and at first it worked fine, but as traffic and the number of sites hosted on the unmanaged Server4you server has grown (~150 sites including sub-domains) server problems have become a daily event (there’s 25 support tickets within the Server4you control panel and many have been on going for months!).

We rented an unmanaged dedicated server with 512MB of RAM and 700GB monthly bandwidth, we’ve never come close to using the monthly bandwidth Server4you supplies (99% of our content is text based so low bandwidth usage) but we’ve recently realised the 512MB of RAM is causing a bottleneck (which is apparently causing all our problems!).

Direct Line Car Insurance Not Good Value

June 7th, 2007 at 08:50am Under Non SEO :-)

This is going to be a bit of a moan about Direct Line Car Insurance rates to be honest, though I’ll try to make it a Direct Line Insurance Review as well.

I’m not a big car user, since I have a home office I tend to work from home most days, so a week can pass between using my car. I sometimes use it so little that the battery goes flat, so a car isn’t exactly important to my life style (would rather walk), that said I couldn’t live without one so car insurance is a necessary evil :-)

Clickbank Affiliate Program

June 7th, 2007 at 07:24am Under Affiliate Marketing

My affiliate marketing post in January: Affiliate Marketing, What Next? highlights the current problems with Google rankings and affiliate content, basically Google hates affiliate content and quickly removes it from the Google search index!

If Google hadn’t removed all my automated (datafeeds = big sites fast) affiliate sites from it’s index I’d probably be making well over £200,000 a year just from affiliate and Google AdSense revenue by now.

But it did and so I have to move on.

WOW Horde Power leveling Guide Update

May 25th, 2007 at 06:00pm Under Affiliate Marketing+ Non SEO :-)

Earlier this month I purchased and wrote a Review of the Ebook Joana’s 1-70 World of Warcraft Horde leveling Guide for just under $40.

From the writer of the World of Warcraft Ebooks site:

My guide contains the same leveling strategies, questing patterns, techniques, and secrets I have used to get the best record time to level 60 on a new server, which is 4 days 20 hours /played! The realm I have achieved this on was the Jubei’Thos server, and I am currently getting prepared to set records for 1-70!

Anyone who spends time playing the Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) The World of Warcraft will know to level a character from level 1 to level 60 in under 5 days is an amazing achievement.

Affiliate Marketing, What Next?

January 15th, 2007 at 06:43pm Under Affiliate Marketing

I don’t consider myself an affiliate marketer per se, but have drifted towards affiliate marketing as I’ve used my SEO skills to make money online. So I’m no affiliate marketing guru, just a guy who is very good at SEO and likes to make money online while sleeping :-)

Currently Google hates almost anything that’s affiliate, especially when the content used is that supplied by the affiliate merchants. I have over 50 Amazon affiliate stores (use their XML datafeed) that at one point (about 4-6 months after creating them) pulled in about 25,000 visitors per day and it looked like within a year those sites would sell over half a million dollars worth of Amazon stock making me ~$50K a year from Amazon and a similar amount from Google AdSense!
